Child Protection for Designated Safeguarding Lead Teachers - for primary and secondary school staff new to the role
Participants will:
- Understand their role and responsibilities as a DSL
- Learn about recent changes to key legislation and safeguarding guidance
- Discuss how best to support staff and the governing body to ensure best practice
- Examine how their own personal values regarding child abuse can affect professional practice
- Know how to respond effectively and in a timely fashion to disclosures or suspicions of child abuse
- Understand the referral and assessment process in relation to children’s social care, the police or the Channel programme
- Be aware of the risk factors which increase the likelihood of abuse for vulnerable groups of children
- Identify the barriers to reporting concerns and consider the best way to overcome them
- Understand how best to liaise with external organisation to ensure maximum communication and collaborative practice
- Know how to develop effective referral and detailed recording systems in line with GDRP guidelines
