Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 (Act) places a duty on specified authorities, such as schools, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism- this is known as Prevent Duty.

Section 22 point 16 of the Ofsted guidance on Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills (updated August 2021) states that inspectors should consider evidence that:

“there is a clear approach to implementing the ‘Prevent’ duty and keeping children and learners safe from the dangers of radicalisation and extremism, including by encouraging open debate about different points of view and beliefs”
The aim of this training is to ensure that head teachers and governors are clear about how to develop a whole school approach to the Prevent duty in order to safeguard pupils and meet Ofsted requirements.
Training objectives By the end of the course, leaders will:
- Have a clear understanding about the Prevent duty and requirements for schools
- Be familiar with the type of questions that Ofsted might ask
- Be able to develop a whole school approach to the Prevent duty
