SCHOOL’S FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FOR FINANCE/ EXPERIENCED GOVERNORS (ONLINE TRAINING)

Event description The board’s third core function is to oversee financial performance and make sure public money is well spent. It should do this by ensuring it has at least one individual or a committee with specific, relevant skills and experience of financial matters. However, everyone on the governing board should have a basic understanding of the financial cycle and the legal requirements of the school on accountability and spend.” (Governance Handbook, October 2020, DfE) 
 
This session is a follow up to the basic finance session (January 2023) aimed at governors responsible for finance / or who sit on a relevant committee, understand their role more fully in relation to managing the budget effectively. 

The training will be undertaken by Ealing’s Russel Dyer, Stephen Bell and Justin Whitsitt. 
Training objectives The outcomes will be to gain a greater understanding of:



  • The role of the finance governor / committee

  • Key financial roles, task and skills of the board

  • Local funding formulae vs National funding formula - where are we with this?

  • Ealing timelines and deadlines

  • The role of governors in developing and approving a budget plan for your school

  • Monitoring your budget including a specific worked through example.

  • Benchmarking and auditing

  • Next steps ….
