UNDERSTANDING GENDER IDENTITY AND GENDER DIVERSITY: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE TRANS OR GENDER NON-CONFORMING

Event description Mermaids, a leading LGBTQ+ charity in the UK that works to empower thousands of people will be delivering this training session. They have a strong track record of delivering effective training and awareness raising session on gender identity and help professionals accommodate and reassure gender-diverse young people.

This 2 hour remote training is about understanding gender identity and gender diversity, and what it means to be trans or gender non-conforming. 
Training objectives You will leave knowing and understanding more about:

LGBTQI+ terminology
Challenges faced by LGBTQI+ young people: isolation, bullying and discrimination, family issues, social situations, mental health, transitioning while at school etc.
Transition pathways, including healthcare
Changing names, systems and forms
Legal responsibilities: the Equality Act, hate crime incidents, transphobia, managing single-sex spaces
Improving LGBT+ equality and diversity: policies, guidance, recommended resources 
Target Group Anyone in school with a pastoral, senior leader, Mental Health, PSHE or safegaurding role.
