Event description This programme, which is designed to equip teachers with the key principles of the Singapore Maths approach, is based on the findings of Bruner, Piaget, Skemp, Dienes and Vygostsky.

It is ideal for teachers who want to renew their confidence in teaching maths, be effective practitioners and reignite a love of teaching the subject.

The programme of training will run over 3 half days, which each work as a stand alone session or can be built upon by attending the following dates. The course will consider:

• effective use of questioning
• ‘Bar Modelling’ and a range of CPA strategies
• how to narrow gaps in attainment
• how to develop higher order thinking skills (for every child)
• how to support struggling learners and extend confident learners
• the use of Maths journals to investigate, record ideas, make links and ‘write’ Maths

Learning through discovery is one of the essential components of mastering Maths and this course is designed to allow teachers time to reflect, question, explore and problem-solve: everything the children learning through the Singapore Maths approach would be doing. Attendees will also have the opportunity to observe lessons where the CPA approach is explored and take away practical ideas to use in their classroom practice.

All three sessions will be held at West Twyford Primary School on the following dates and will each run from 8.30am-12.30pm:

Thursday 1st February - The Concrete-Pictoral-Abstract (CPA) Approach

Thursday 1st March - Effective Questioning, Pupil Discussion and the Role of the Teacher

Thursday 21st June - Journaling, Higher Order Thinking and Supporting & Extending Learners

The cost is £75 per session.
